Having released his first solo LP in fourteen years entitled "American Utopia", David Byrne has embarked upon a massive global tour in support of it that includes a staggering 146 dates. The tour brought him for a two-night stand to the beautifully restored Kings Theatre in Brooklyn September 16-17 of which I attended the opening night. Simply put, I witnessed one of the most mesmerizing shows I have seen in many years. In a tightly choreographed performance, Byrne and his ensemble of eleven performers moved around a stark empty stage flawlessly performing a combination of solo material along with Talking Heads classics. This Kings Theatre performance of "I Zimbra" from the groundbreaking Talking Heads LP "Fear of Music" shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LB83lF70lEE was one of the many highlights of the concert. Taking place over forty years after the Talking Heads debuted with their "Talking Heads: 77" LP, this uniquely structured concert performance reaffirmed why David Byrne remains one of the most innovative figures in rock music history.
