Gino Vannelli is a Canadian singer and songwriter known primarily for his hit single "I Just Wanna Stop" from his brilliant 1978 LP "Brother to Brother". However, that is just one of his notable hit singles which include "People Gotta Move" and "Living Inside Myself". Last week I attended his performance at Sony Hall in New York having seen him in concert for the first time since he played Carnegie Hall on the “Brother to Brother" tour. Now seventy-two years old, he delivered an inspired performance that received multiple rousing ovations from the sold-out audience. Backed by a stellar six-piece band that included a three-piece horn section, he was superb with his voice still sounding in top form. He dedicated the concert to his late wife who recently passed away adding extra emotion to the evening. Multiple tracks were performed from his 1975-1981 period when he released a string of superlative LPs beginning with "Storm at Sunup", "The Gist of the Gemini", "A Pauper in Paradise", "Brother to Brother", and "Nightwalker". All in all it was a memorable evening from an amazing performer.
